I hope 2011 is better than 2010 from a personal perspective. It has been a very difficult year, starting with a substantial amount of change at work, bringing about new challenges, difficulties and at times stress. It’s been a time where I’ve had to say goodbye to colleagues, some that lost their jobs through the re-organisations and in particular, Laura who lost her battle with cancer at far too young an age.
I also lost my Grandad to cancer this year too, shortly followed by my Auntie Lisa also being diagnosed. I’ve lost far too many friends and family to this horrible disease.
I have had some great times during the year, celebrated 4 years of marriage to the beautiful Polly and thoroughly enjoyed holidaying in San Francisco, Australia and Germany, however the San Francisco trip was the only trip made with my wife which meant with her own trip to Australia to see her brother in the summer following the birth of the gorgeous Amelia, we spent over 6 weeks apart this year. This has to be a record during our 12 year relationship and one that I do not wish to repeat again anytime soon.
I witnessed in person, good friends Mike and Paul complete the Frankfurt Ironman in amazing times, despite incredible temperatures during the whole event. It was an absolutely fantastic achievement and I am so pleased to have been there to experience it, photograph it and cheer them on.
So 2011, I’ve got high expectations for you…
I’ve been asked to be best man for my friend Paul when he marries Claire in February 2011. I think it’s safe to say I was pretty much solely responsible for them getting together so I’m delighted that things have worked out so well for a great couple.
My brother and wife announced that they will be having their second child in May next year, I’m over the moon to be getting another niece or nephew.
I’m also hoping that work settles down somewhat and some good opportunities will be available.
We are also talking about taking a big holiday with friends to Mexico in the summer!
As far as New Years resolutions, I am definitely going to get out there and see more live music, as well as learn to play my bass guitar. I’m also going to be much more active and get myself into shape so I can enter into an half-marathon.
