FA Cup 3rd Round Draw

Solskjaer's late winner in 1999

Well, well, well… Bitter blue nose and MASSIVE rock star Noel Gallagher paired with Leicester City fan and Kasabian guitarist Serge Pizzorno were given the honor of carrying out this years FA Cup 3rd Round Draw.  Having pulled out their own teams to play each other in the worlds most prestigious domestic cup competition, they then gave the third round the glamour tie everybody wanted, Manchester United drawn at home to bitter rivals Liverpool.

Last time the two teams met at Old Trafford in the FA Cup was the 4th Round in 1999 when Manchester United came back from a Michael Owen header to snatch victory late on thanks to super-sub and Old Trafford legend, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. It seems fitting that the FA Cup draw has given us this mouthwatering tie in a week that saw the Old Trafford faithful say farewell to Ole, as he returns home to Norway to begin his reign as the manager of Molde.

Following victory against Liverpool in 1999, as any football fan knows, Manchester United went on to secure an illustrious treble, beating Arsenal to the league title by one point, Newcastle United in the final of the FA Cup and Bayern Munich in the dying minutes of the Champions League final.

So 12 years on from those magical times, we find ourselves with a fantastic FA Cup draw against our bitterest of rivals, where, hopefully, another hero in a Manchester United shirt is made…
